In the technical matrix of tube printing, offset printing, screen printing, and flexographic printing form distinct capability boundaries. Leveraging its unique technical characteristics, the offset printing process has found an optimal balance among precision, efficiency, and cost. Compared with screen printing, offset printing offers a significant improvement in registration accuracy: the left-right deviation of patterns on commercial products can be controlled within 1mm, and that on promotional products does not exceed 1.5mm, whereas the registration deviation of screen printing is usually around ±0.5mm. This precision advantage enables offset printing to handle complex designs involving fine text, gradient patterns, and delicate lines. Clinical trial data from a toothpaste brand shows that the product instruction text printed via offset printing remains clearly legible after 500 squeezes, while similar products printed via screen printing show obvious wear.
In terms of production efficiency, offset printing demonstrates strong mass processing capabilities. Modern fully automated offset printing production lines can reach a speed of 150 tubes per minute, and the order change adjustment time is shortened to less than 20 minutes—this is attributed to the digital control of human-machine interaction interfaces, where operators only need to input parameters to complete tasks that traditionally required complex mechanical adjustments for equipment. By contrast, due to the need for color-by-color drying, screen printing equipment occupies 1.8 times more space than offset printing equipment for the same production capacity, and the printing cost per tube is 0.5-1 yuan higher than that of offset printing. Although flexographic printing has an advantage in speed, it is slightly insufficient in color layering performance: its ink layer thickness is usually 20-30 microns, making it difficult to achieve the delicate color transition effect that offset printing offers.
Cost structure analysis shows that offset printing has a significant advantage in medium-to-large batch production. Although the initial investment in offset printing machines is relatively high (ranging from several hundred thousand yuan to several million yuan), the unit printing cost is only 0.5-1 yuan. When the order quantity exceeds 500,000 tubes, the total cost of offset printing surpasses that of screen printing (in terms of cost advantage). More importantly, the quality stability of offset printing greatly reduces the defect rate: the defect rate of offset printing production lines that use vacuum systems to fix tubes can be controlled below 0.3%, while the defect rate of traditional screen printing is usually around 1.5%. For fields with extremely high safety requirements such as pharmaceutical packaging, the UV-LED inks used in offset printing do not contain bisphenol A (BPA) or TPO, and comply with FDA and EU REACH standards—this compliance advantage is unmatched by other processes.
